Description

Discover the birding paradise of uMkhuze Game Reserve, a northern section of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park World Heritage Site, known for its rich biodiversity and spectacular birdlife. Depart early from Durban/Ricahrds Bay/St Lucia , and travel through Zululand’s scenic wetlands and rural landscapes. Upon arrival at uMkhuze, meet your specialist guide who will lead you through forest trails and bird hides near Nsumo Pan, one of South Africa’s most rewarding birding spots. Keep your binoculars ready for sightings of Pel’s Fishing Owl, Pink-throated Twinspot, African Fish Eagle, Goliath Heron, Narina Trogon, and the colorful Lilac-breasted Roller. The morning session includes stops at fig forests and open pans, offering a mix of forest and wetland species. Enjoy a relaxed picnic brunch at the Mantuma rest area, surrounded by the sounds of the bush. In the afternoon, head to KwaJobe Village, located just outside the reserve. Here you’ll experience a glimpse of Zululand’s living heritage — storytelling, beadwork, and traditional drumming hosted by local artisans. The day ends with a comfortable return journey to your pick-up point, arriving in the late afternoon, carrying unforgettable memories and a list of exciting bird sightings.
