Durban Helicopter and City Tour

This private experience combines a 30-minute helicopter flight over Durban and Umhlanga with a 4-hour guided vehicle tour covering key city attractions. It suits visitors interested in both aerial and ground perspectives of Durban’s landmarks.

Description

The tour begins at Virginia Airport with a helicopter flight south over Durban city and the harbor, then heads north along the coast past Durban’s promenade (Golden Mile) to the Umgeni River mouth and Mangrove Swamps. From there, it continues over Umhlanga and Sibaya Casino, offering panoramic views of the city and surrounding areas.

After the flight, the vehicle tour follows with a stop at the Victoria Street Market to explore African-inspired accessories, clothing, souvenirs, home décor, paintings, and luggage.

Adjacent to the market is the Zulu Medicine Market where your guide introduces “Inyanga (Doctors) lane” and explains the preservation of Zulu culture within Durban’s urban environment.

The tour visits uShaka Marine World’s Village Walk on Durban’s Golden Mile Beachfront, where you can shop and have lunch. This open-air complex features a variety of shopping, dining, and entertainment options.

The oldest Botanical Gardens in Africa, established in 1849, is another stop. Your guide highlights garden features and offers time to explore independently.

The KwaMuhle Museum, once the headquarters of Durban’s Native Administration Department, now functions as the city’s Apartheid Museum. It presents Durban’s urban history, labor control system, and includes an HIV/Aids educational exhibition. Note that the museum is closed on holidays and weekends.
