Billy the Bum's

Billy the Bum's is a sizzling-hot and funky food cocktail bar where you may very well get 'Elegantly Wasted'. The stress here is on savoir-faire, sophistication and plain fun. With its quirky cocktails, food menu and signature nights, Billy the Bum's promises to bring out the little devil in you. As this hot-spot will not stand for anything dampening a good party, a covered patio has recently been added to its premises.

Located in Durban's Morningside, Billy the Bum's is considered to be Durban's trailblazer in cocktail bars. Thirteen years down the line, it is still forging ahead with its innovative concoctions. Their cocktails list covers the Classics such as Mai Tai, Pina Colada, Cosmopolitans, Martinis, the Blends like Daiquiris and Margaritas, and the 'Built', one of which is the 'Sasha Martinengo aka Sneaky Puffader', a wicked mixture of Wyborowa Vodka, dash bitters, soda water and lemonade. Scanning 'Billy's Originals' and 'Dangerous Drinks' will make you chuckle before you have even ordered, let alone had your drink. There's the self-explanatory 'Call me a Cab' a mixture of Wyborowa Vodka, Malibu, Peach Schnapps, Southern Comfort, Butlers' Banana, PJ, CJ & Sprite, or the 'Attitude Adjuster (No more Mr Nice Guy)'. Then, of course, there are the Mojitos and the cane-spirit based Caipirhina.

Billy's food menu ranges from 'Bites', through to salads, wraps, burger (chicken and beef) to 'Bigger Bites' like rumps, spare ribs, schnitzels and fillets. Their beef burgers are made from freshly ground meat basted and grilled on an open flame and served with fries and onion rings. Try the 'Johnny Chunk Dog' or 'The Roughrider'. If you're up to it, take on the Billy's Triple Challenge at R120. All you have to do is finish a 'monster' burger of three 200 kg patties piled with cheese, bacon and BBQ sauce and wash it down with a Black Label QUART in 25 minutes to win a R50 voucher certificate and special Billy's branded memento! Did I mention that Billy's food and cocktail bar is about outrageous fun?

Of their alcoholic shakes (all made with two scoops of vanilla ice cream and two shots of booze) and desserts, could you honestly pass up something called the 'Flying Gorilla' made with Butlers banana, Creme de Cacao, Nachtmusiek & Banana?

A good time is by no means reserved for the night. From Monday through to Friday, Billy the Bum's has its own lunch menu of wraps and tramazzinis, burgers, calamari, and Thai Green Curry among others.

Every Monday is Burger 'n Beer Night, when you get a beer with your burger for only R45. Tuesday is Billy's Girls Night with its own cocktails list at a mere R14 a drink and ladies receive a cocktail on the house with their meal. Other events hosted at Billy's annually are National Cleavage Day, Summer Sizzle, and Absolut Ski Party.
