Cafe 1999
Durban
Café 1999 exists for one reason: to celebrate taste. It is the principal philosophy behind every aspect of this café-style restaurant’s food, décor and electric atmosphere.
Located on Durban’s Berea, ‘99’ – as locals call it – offers a uniquely innovative and constantly fresh approach to eating that appeals to young trendsetters, serious diners and flavour junkies. An elegant urban chic interior sets the context for new food concepts. Gone are the traditional structures of starters and mains; instead the menu is divided into ‘tit-bits’ and ‘bit-parts’.
‘Tit-bits’ are small creations of imagination and intensity designed to fill a table and be enthusiastically shared.
‘Bit-parts’ are larger dishes offered in full or half portions that showcase the kitchen’s aptitude for complexity and balance.
Desserts are taken seriously, providing the elevation of the senses that ensures you finish your meal on a high.
For ten years Chef Marcelle Roberts and her inventive team have been creating award-winning food for Durban’s most discerning and thrill-seeking palates. Wines are hand picked by Samantha and Sean to complement the constantly evolving menu, with special attention given to smaller producers that share our epicurean philosophy.
These are the ingredients of a memorable meal, brought to you in the form of personable, energetic and knowledgeable service. To eat at Café 1999 is to join a league of passionate individuals dedicated to exploring a world of tastes.
